The Oxfordshire market town of Abingdon has been continuously inhabited for at least 6,000 years and today is home to more than 35,000 people, many of whom appreciate its convenient location for commuting to Oxford and further afield, via the A34, M40 and M4 and via the nearby rail station at Didcot.

Abingdon is located close to a number of major scientific establishments and an Army base and there are also a number of sites of interests for visitors to the area. The remains of Abingdon's Benedictine abbey are open to visitors, as is the Abingdon County Hall Museum, which was built when Abingdon was the county town of Berkshire. The River Thames runs through Abingdon and the 15th century Abingdon Bridge, which crosses the river, is also a popular and picturesque sight.
