About Blackburn

The Lancashire town of Blackburn was once best-known for its many cotton mills, each producing textiles for use in the UK and for export further afield. Today, the textile industry is long gone but the town has become a retail centre for the area. The Mall, formerly known as Blackburn Shopping Centre, has more than 130 shops with many more in the immediately surrounding area. Blackburn also has a huge, indoor market that's home to as many as 300 stalls.

Notable attractions for visitors to the town include Blackburn Cathedral, which dominates the skyline in the town and is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area. Also notable is nearby Samlesbury Hall. This 12th century mansion is located just to the west of Blackburn and is well worth a visit. It's also a popular venue for weddings. Another worthwhile place to visit is Hoghton Tower, which is a regular venue for farmers markets and has an interesting history of its own - it's where James I famously knighted a loin of beef!

The unitary authority of Blackburn, which includes Darwen borough, is home to more than 105,000 people and although the largest urban area in East Lancashire is not the administrative centre of the area - this honour falls to Preston. With so many people in such a diverse area, it's no surprise that there is a strong demand for van hire in Blackburn. This demand is well met by local companies who provide a full range of rental vans:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
