The Scottish town of Dumfries is in the Dumfries and Galloway region of the south west of Scotland, close to the Solway Firth (the mouth of the River Nith).


Dumfries is a large town in the south-west of Scotland, with a population of around 35,000. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, Dumfries has a range of attractions for visitors. Well known as the one-time home of Scots poet Robert Burns, Dumfries today is a fairly quiet town sits on the Great Western Railway line - providing good access to Glasgow and Carlisle. Dumfries' road connections are also good - it is directly linked to the A74(M) and M6 by the A75 - which also runs to Stranraer, providing ferry access to Ireland.
