Dungannon was the historical stronghold of the O’Neill clan, which ruled Ulster until the 17th century. Nearby Tullyhogue Fort and Castle Hill are reminders of the strategic importance of the town’s location.

Dungannon’s economy was for many years dominated by the linen industry, but today, glass-making and brick-making are more important. Food processing is also an important business in the area.

Attractions for visitors to Dungannon include The Argory, Castle Hill, Windmill Woods and Parkanaur, a wildlife reserve with a herd of White Fallow Deer.
