Gillingham is a town in North Dorset – not to be confused with the other Gillingham, which is in north Kent. The town of Gillingham in Dorset is home to around 10,000 people and is situated close to Shaftesbury, Wincanton and Shepton Mallet.
The North Dorset town of Gillingham is situated in the far north of the county, close to its borders with Somerset and Wiltshire. Gillingham is close to the main A303 road – which runs from the M3 down to the West Country – and is also on the main railway line to London Waterloo, providing excellent access to the capital. Bath, Salisbury and Exeter are all within an hour's travel, making Gillingham very conveniently located for exploring the region.
The National Trust property at Stourhead is also popular with visitors to Gillingham, its house, tower and extensive grounds providing many hours of relaxing exploration for visitors.
