Glasgow Prestwick Airport is an international airport and is often just referred to as Prestwick Airport due to its distance from Glasgow. The airport serves as a hub for budget airline Ryanair and has grown rapidly in recent years, thanks in part to the ambitious 3 million passenger a year design capacity of the current terminal, built in 1964.

Located just south of Kilmarnock, Prestwick Airport is 32 miles from Glasgow city centre and has its own railway station, which according to the airport's website offers a 50% discount on railway travel to and from anywhere in Scotland.

Prestwick Airport is also a major regional cargo airport and often serves military aircraft as a refuelling base. The airport serves more than 2,000,000 passengers a year - small wonder that it has its own van hire offices in the terminal buildings:
