The Surrey town of Godalming is home to more than 21,000 people. Dating back at least 1,000 years, much of its early growth was due to its location – on the main route between London and Portsmouth. Today, Godalming remains a stop on the Portsmouth-London railway line and it remains close to the A3, which runs from Portsmouth to London.

Godalming has played host to a range of industries over the years and has the minor distinction of having been the second UK town to get mains electricity – in 1881. Sadly, it lost it again in 1884 and it was 1904 before mains electricity returned to Godalming!

Attractions in the town include the 'Pepperpot' – the name given to the former town hall building, so called because of its pepperpot-shaped dome. Godalming Museum is opposite the Pepperpot, making this area of town well worth visiting.
