Ipswich is a working port and a regional centre for agricultural businesses. One of the oldest settlements in England, Ipswich's history can be traced back to around 620AD, when it became one of the main east coast trading ports thanks to its situation between York and London.

Although much of Ipswich's former dock area has now been redeveloped for commercial and residential use, Ipswich does still have a working port which handles millions of tonnes of cargo each year.

Ipswich has a diverse population and is home to a number of artists, museums and regional broadcasting organisations. Its historic building and long history attract regular numbers of visitors each year, as does the idyllic Suffolk countryside surrounding the town.
