About Liverpool

Liverpool has a long history as an important port and industrial city. As the hometown of The Beatles, the 1960s saw the city also become famous as the home of modern pop music. Liverpool continues to enjoy a rich cultural life to this day and was the 2008 European Capital of Culture.

The Liverpool urban area is home to more than 800,000 people and in 2007 the city celebrated its 800th birthday - the borough of Liverpool was founded by King John in 1207. At one point in the 19th century, almost 40% of the world's trade passed through Liverpool docks. This astonishing statistic and the dock infrastructure that enabled it to happen are two of the reasons that in 2004, Liverpool's waterfront was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Liverpool's Albert Dock is the largest collection of Grade I listed buildings in the UK - when it was built, its stone, iron and brick construction made it the first non-combustible dock warehouse system in the world.

Liverpool's diverse mixture of businesses and large residential population mean that van hire is readily available in the city. Anyone needing to hire a van in Liverpool should find that the following types of rental van are readily available:
