Oswestry has a long history as one of the largest settlements in Shropshire. Home to around 16,000 people, it is situated to the north west of Shrewsbury and directly south of Wrexham. Oswestry's proximity to the Welsh border means that the town has strong links to Wales.

Attractions in and around Oswestry include Whittington Castle, located at nearby Whittington, as well as the Cambrian Railway Museum, which is located in the former Oswestry railway station.
