Penzance is the largest town in the far south-west of Cornwall. It is home to more than 20,000 people and is a popular holiday resort as well as an important fishing town. It has its own airport and is also the western terminus of the West Coast Main Line - meaning that despite its relatively remote location, travel by rail to London and the rest of the UK is relatively fast and easy. Penzance is also located on the A30, providing fairly good road access to the east.

Attractions in and around Penzance include St Michaels Mount, a castle situated in the middle of Mount Bay, opposite Marazion and at the end of a tidal causeway. Although the building was originally a priory, its strategic location meant that it spent much of its life as a castle, protecting the towns around Mount Bay.
