About Runcorn

Located on a spur into the River Mersey in Cheshire, Runcorn's documented history stretches back to at least 915AD. For many years Runcorn was a small village but the combination of the transport connections provided by the River Mersey and connecting local canals and the Industrial Revolution meant that the Runcorn grew rapidly during the 19th century. Even today, Runcorn remains one of the centres of the UK chemical industry and Runcorn's designation as a new town in the mid-1960s fuelled further population growth.

Visitors to the area usually head for Halton Castle, which overlooks the town from nearby Halton Hill. Also noteworthy is Norton Water Tower - built from local sandstone, it holds an amazing 3 million litres of water and supplies water to the people of Liverpool.

Runcorn is well positioned for travelling with railway links to Liverpool and London (via the west coast main line) and flights possible worldwide from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport, both of which are only a short drive away. Van hire is also readily available in Runcorn, with a full range of standard types of van on offer:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
