About Stroud
The Gloucestershire market town of Stroud is situated about 10 miles south of the county town of Gloucester and about 15 miles west of Cirencester. The town is home to around 35,000 people and lies within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Stroud was an important wool mill town in the Industrial Revolution and its position on the canal network meant that large quantities of goods could be efficiently transported throughout the West Midlands and down towards London and the Thames.
Today, Stroud retains some manufacturing industry but is also popular as a residential base for commuters to nearby Gloucester and Cirencester and as a convenient location for access to the M5, which is only a few miles to the west and provides good access to Bristol, Cheltenham and the West Midlands.
