Tidworth's long history stretches back to at least 1086, when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Todeorde. Today, the town has a population of around 10,000 and is growing steadily, as it forms an attractive residential base for commuters to Andover and Salisbury. It is also home to a substantial army base – nearby Salisbury Plain is heavily used by the army for training purposes.
