Hourly van hire is now available at 137 B&Q stores across the UK. Vans cost just £14 per hour to rent and the first 20 miles are free. After that, mileage is charged at 30p per mile.
The van rental scheme is operated in partnership with Connect By Hertz, a global car sharing scheme run by rental giant Hertz.
To use one of the B&Q rental vans, you need to be a member of the Connect By Hertz scheme. This will enable you to book rentals online and give you a membership card which is required for access to the hire vehicles – you swipe your card to unlock the doors and the ignition key is kept in the vehicle permanently (this seems to be the same as the Streetvan service in London)
Each van comes with a fuel card and fuel costs are included within the rental charges – the first 20 miles are free and thereafter you pay 30p per mile. You use the fuel card for any fillups required and you are automatically billed for the appropriate amount.
As far as I can tell, you do not have to be a B&Q customer to use the hire vans kept at B&Q stores. You just need Connect By Hertz membership.
