Europcar has launched a new hourly van hire service, available at all UK van hire branches except airports.

This is not the first time that Europcar has offered hourly van hire in the UK, but the service has not been available for some time.

Here are the details of Europcar’s new hourly van hire service:

• Available at all UK branches except airports
• Available for checkouts Monday-Friday (Mon-Wed only in Central London)
• Van hire prices start from £11 per hour (as of 24/01/2012)
• Minimum hire 2 hours, maximum hire 8 hours

Hourly van hire is a popular request by visitors to VanRental.co.uk and is an extremely useful service for quick local journeys – delivering furniture or DIY goods, for example.

The move was necessary because the company had outgrown the old Chester branch facility on Sealand Road, said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar Group UK:

If hiring a van by the day doesn’t fit in with your schedule, why not hire one overnight, instead?

Europcar is currently offering a new Overnight Van Hire service which allows customers to hire a van from 5pm to 9am the following day from just £29.

Most Europcar branches are open 8am – 6pm or longer, so choosing to hire a van overnight allows you to finish work, collect your van, use it, and then return it on your way to work the next morning.

One-Way Van Hire

One-way van hire is a surprisingly popular service and one which requires little explanation.

One-way van rental allows you pickup your hire van at one rental location and drop it off at a different location. Obviously one requirement of this is that the company you are hiring the van from has branches in both locations – that’s why large van hire companies with national networks of branches have a big advantage offering this service.

Two of the biggest companies offering this service in the UK are Europcar and National. These two well-known rental brands actually share a network of branches in the UK and have more than 180 branches nationwide, making one-way hire a realistic proposition in most areas of the UK.

“We have been trialling extended opening hours at selected locations over the last few months, with considerable success” added Ken McCall. “It therefore made perfect sense to roll out this service to more locations.”

Europcar’s move is certainly one that will offer great value to van rental customers – at present, weekend rentals usually mean exactly that – a Friday night or Saturday morning pickup followed by a Monday morning return. Being able to collect and return vehicles on Sundays will be very useful.

Update: Van hire branches with extended opening hours include Birmingham (Bristol Street), Leeds (Low Road), Bristol North (Berkley, Clifton) and Manchester (Oldham Road).
