The town of Wallsend has a long history and was the site of a settlement and fort in Roman times. Indeed, the name Wallsend is derived from the fact that the town was the site of one end of Hadrian's Wall. Today, visitors can visit the Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths & Museum in the town and enjoy the most completely excavated fort along Hadrian's Wall.
