The West Midlands town of Willenhall dates back to the 8th century, when it was a small village in the Black Country. As with many other towns in the region, Willenhall remained a small settlement until the Industrial Revolution, which triggered dramatic and substantial growth.

Willenhall became known as the centre of the lock industry and both iron works and coal mining took on major importance for the local economy. Until 2008, Willenhall was home to the National Lock Museum, but unfortunately this closed due to funding shortfalls.
