{"id":1469,"date":"2010-07-23T06:00:35","date_gmt":"2010-07-23T06:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=1469"},"modified":"2010-06-17T15:02:28","modified_gmt":"2010-06-17T15:02:28","slug":"minibus-hire-who-can-drive-a-rented-minibus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/1469","title":{"rendered":"Minibus Hire &#8211; Who Can Drive A Rented Minibus?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you want to drive a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/selfdriveminibushire.php\" target=\"_self\">self-drive hired minibus<\/a>, the first thing to check is whether you have category D1 on your driving licence.<\/p>\n<p>If you passed your car driving test before the 1st January, 1997, then you should have D1 on your licence and can drive minibuses with up to 17 seats.<\/p>\n<p>If you passed your car test after that date, you probably won&#8217;t have D1 entitlement, unless you have taken an additional minibus driving test since then.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.direct.gov.uk\/en\/Motoring\/DriverLicensing\/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations\/DG_4022619\" target=\"_blank\">the law does allow people without D1 entitlement to drive minibuses<\/a> up to 17 seats <strong>under certain circumstances<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/minibus.php\" target=\"_self\">minibus hire<\/a> companies require drivers to have D1 entitlement &#8211; even if they might be legally allowed to drive the minibus without it.
