{"id":181,"date":"2008-08-14T12:15:50","date_gmt":"2008-08-14T11:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=181"},"modified":"2008-08-14T10:11:24","modified_gmt":"2008-08-14T09:11:24","slug":"uk-biofuel-consumption-hits-214-but-where-is-it-coming-from","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/181","title":{"rendered":"UK Biofuel Consumption Hits 2.14% &#8211; But Where Is It Coming From?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK government&#8217;s renewable fuels watchdog, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dft.gov.uk\/rfa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Renewable Fuels Agency<\/a> (RFA) has published its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dft.gov.uk\/rfa\/reportsandpublications\/rtforeports.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">first monthly report<\/a> into UK biofuel usage.<\/p>\n<p>The main conclusions of the report seem to be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Usage is up to 2.14% &#8211; slightly below the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/93\" target=\"_self\">government&#8217;s 2.5% RTFO target<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Only 19% of fuel met &#8216;environmental standards&#8217; &#8211; below the target of 30%<\/li>\n<li>50% of biofuel came from an unknown country<\/li>\n<li>58% of biofuel was produced on land whose previous use was unknown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given the number of unknowns, it seems plausible that much of the biofuel we are merrily consuming is coming from the kind of rain forest-destroying, food price inflation-related sources that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/93\" target=\"_self\">have got environmentalists hot under the collar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The RFA hopes that data provision will be improved in the future and that they will soon work out how to compensate for the knock-on effects of biofuel production.
