{"id":2851,"date":"2012-02-01T06:08:34","date_gmt":"2012-02-01T06:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=2851"},"modified":"2012-01-31T19:28:03","modified_gmt":"2012-01-31T19:28:03","slug":"volkswagen-transporter-is-used-van-of-the-year-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/2851","title":{"rendered":"Volkswagen Transporter Is Used Van Of The Year 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2852\" title=\"Volkswagen Transporter T5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/vw-transporter-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Volkswagen Transporter T5\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" \/>Volkswagen&#8217;s evergreen Transporter panel van has been chosen as Used Van of the Year 2011 by vehicle pricing specialists CAP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cap.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">CAP<\/a> awards looked at a three year old, 60,000 mile model of all current vans and chose a winner in each category of van before going on to choose an overall winner &#8211; the VW Transporter. The judging criteria were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Value retained vs. cost new compared with peer group<\/li>\n<li>Model range coverage<\/li>\n<li>Options availability<\/li>\n<li>Perceived reliability\/cost of ownership<\/li>\n<li>Image &amp; brand perception<\/li>\n<li>Dealer network professionalism and support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The winners in each category included some of my firm favourites &#8211; not least the Ford Transit, which has now been setting the standard for medium and large vans for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/2731\">more than 40 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the category winners and the judges&#8217; comments about each model. It&#8217;s interesting to note that only two van manufacturers are represented, Ford and VW (excluding the pick-up, which isn&#8217;t a van):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best hatchback van<\/strong> \u2013 Ford Fiesta: \u201cIn its 5th generation and still a class leader in all respects.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Small van<\/strong> \u2013 Volkswagen Caddy C20: \u201cBrought new levels of quality to its sector and depreciation is among the lowest.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medium van<\/strong> \u2013 Volkswagen Transporter T5: \u201cJust \u2018right\u2019 in every way.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Large van<\/strong> \u2013 Ford Transit 330-350: \u201cUbiquitous and drives improvement across the whole market by setting the standard for others to aim for.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lifestyle pick-up<\/strong> \u2013 Toyota HiLux: \u201cGreat image and reputation for durability.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minibus &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Ford Transit: \u201cEnviable heritage and trust &#8211; the name says it all.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hopefully the Fiesta van will be with us for a few more years &#8211; as I reported recently, car-derived vans are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/2796\">a dying breed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>What&#8217;s your first choice for a used van?
