{"id":33,"date":"2007-11-13T10:47:11","date_gmt":"2007-11-13T09:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/33"},"modified":"2007-11-13T11:37:28","modified_gmt":"2007-11-13T10:37:28","slug":"most-van-drivers-speeding-without-realising-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/33","title":{"rendered":"Most Van Drivers Speeding Without Realising It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s always been possible to drive vans under 3.5t on a standard car license &#8211; and consequently many van drivers assume that the same rules and speed limits apply to them as when they are driving a car.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that&#8217;s not true.<\/p>\n<p>Car speed limits only apply to vans of under 2 tonnes maximum laden weight &#8211; meaning that any Transit-sized van is excluded.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, a seperate set of speed limits apply; for vehicles with a maximum laden weight between 2 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes (all Transits, Sprinters, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Here are the speed limits that apply to Transits and similar vans:<\/p>\n<p>Single Carriageways: 50mph<\/p>\n<p>Dual Carriageways: 60mph<\/p>\n<p>Motorways: 70mph<\/p>\n<p>The fact that a great many van drivers either ignore or don&#8217;t know about these limits doesn&#8217;t count for anything, unfortunately. Here&#8217;s what Sergeant Spence of North Yorkshire police had to say about van speed limits in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk\/news\/newsindex\/display.var.1827825.0.police_warn_van_drivers_over_speed.php\" target=\"_blank\">recent interview with the Bradford Telegraph &amp; Argus<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;However, we have found that a great many van drivers wrongly presume the speed limits for a van are the same as for a car.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;This simply is not a plausible excuse.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In other words, ignorance is no excuse and they will ticket you anyway&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t say I didn&#8217;t warn you.
