{"id":340,"date":"2008-10-29T07:45:35","date_gmt":"2008-10-29T07:45:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=340"},"modified":"2008-10-28T20:15:42","modified_gmt":"2008-10-28T20:15:42","slug":"van-speed-limits-a-potent-reminder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/340","title":{"rendered":"Van Speed Limits &#8211; A Potent Reminder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know I&#8217;ve written about van speed limits before &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/33\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/105\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/267\" target=\"_self\">here<\/a>, in fact &#8211; but the truth remains that large numbers of van drivers simply aren&#8217;t aware of them &#8211; or choose to ignore them.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scarborougheveningnews.co.uk\/news\/Speed-spotlight-catches-out-van.4633559.jp\" target=\"_blank\">this article in the Scarborough Evening News<\/a> shows, the police are not in the mood to ignore them and are all too aware of the difference between a small, car-derived van (subject to car speed limits) and most other vans, which are subject to goods vehicle speed limits.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone who needs a reminder, here are the speed limits for vans that are not car-derived and have a gross weight over 2 tonnes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Single Carriageway: 50mph<\/li>\n<li>Dual carriageway: 60mph<\/li>\n<li>Motorways: 70mph<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The speed limits apply to all goods vehicles with maximum permitted weights between 2 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>Even if your van has a maximum loaded weight of under 2 tonnes, it might be subject to these limits if it is not <strong><em>car derived<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; see <a href=\"http:\/\/same-day-courier.eu\/alec\/2008\/09\/22\/speed-limits-for-vans-are-the-dft-even-more-confused-than-the-rest-of-us\/#comment-1419\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> for a more detailed explanation of this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Van speed limits continue to catch drivers out, as this report shows.
