{"id":3808,"date":"2012-10-08T15:15:47","date_gmt":"2012-10-08T15:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=3808"},"modified":"2012-10-08T15:15:47","modified_gmt":"2012-10-08T15:15:47","slug":"77-5mpg-is-this-britains-most-fuel-efficient-van","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/3808","title":{"rendered":"77.5mpg &#8211; Is This Britain&#8217;s Most Fuel Efficient Van?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3809\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3809\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3809\" title=\"Citroen Nemo 2012 MPG Marathon Winner\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/citroen-nemo-mpg-1-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Citroen Nemo 2012 MPG Marathon Winner - most economical van\" width=\"300\" height=\"278\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3809\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Citroen Nemo won the most economical van category at this year&#39;s MPG Marathon for the fourth year running, returning most than 77mpg over the 370-mile test course.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Citro\u00ebn Nemo van has again demonstrated its exceptional fuel efficiency by returning 77.5mpg and taking the title of the UK\u2019s most economical van in this year\u2019s independent 2012 ALD Automotive Shell Fuel Save MPG Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the fourth consecutive year that the Nemo has triumphed in the van category &#8212; the model used to\u00a0beat all the other LCV competitors in this demanding 2-day event was a Nemo HDi 75 manual 660 LX.<\/p>\n<h3>Not just a test<\/h3>\n<p>The event was organised by <em>Fleet World <\/em>magazine (it&#8217;s the same event as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/3803\">this one<\/a>) and the Citro\u00ebn Nemo van was driven by LCV journalist John Kendall, with co-driver Dr. Paul Nieuwenhuis, over a 370 mile route through the Cotswolds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/bristol\">Bristol<\/a>, South Wales and the South Midlands.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors had to maintain a 30mph average speed to avoid penalties, while ensuring that they successfully achieved optimum fuel economy. The 30mph average speed requirement highlights that the MPG Marathon is not just an impractical test event &#8212; it requires decent speed to be maintained at all times in real-world driving conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Michael, Citro\u00ebn\u2019s Head of Commercial Vehicles &amp; Business Centre Programme, commented; \u201cThe 2012 ALD Automotive Shell Fuel Save MPG Marathon, an excellent, independent test of a vehicle\u2019s fuel economy has again enabled the Citro\u00ebn Nemo \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/info.php?inforef=small-van\">small van<\/a>\u00a0to demonstrate its exceptional fuel efficiency in demanding conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Petrol performance<\/h3>\n<p>Although they weren&#8217;t driving a van, I must also mention the award-winning performance of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dchs.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust<\/a> driving duo Mark Armstrong-Read and Geoff Murray.<\/p>\n<p>They crewed their Citro\u00ebn C1 VTR 1.0i 68 manual car to achieve an incredible 84.7mpg. Not only did this make it the most economical petrol engine car in this year\u2019s event, but it also out performed its official combined cycle fuel consumption figure by no less than 28.92%. \u00a0This really is an impressive result for a petrol-powered vehicle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Citroen Nemo has won the most economical van category in the 2012 MPG Marathon, returning more than 77mph.
