{"id":4604,"date":"2013-05-08T15:23:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T15:23:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=4604"},"modified":"2018-02-08T19:31:51","modified_gmt":"2018-02-08T19:31:51","slug":"vosa-plans-crackdown-on-rogue-van-operators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/4604","title":{"rendered":"VOSA Plans Crackdown On Rogue Van Operators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/blue-lights-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Emergency service blue lights\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>VOSA is planning to step up enforcement action on van operators who are not complying with the regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At a recent speech to van operators at the Freight Transport Association&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanexcellence.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Van Excellence<\/a> conference in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/sheffield\">Sheffield<\/a>, Gordon Macdonald, VOSA&#8217;s Head of Enforcement Policy, made it clear that the organisation planned to crackdown on rogue van operators, saying that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vosa.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VOSA<\/a> [is] determined to improve van operational standards and makes no secret of its intention to significantly ramp up the number of roadside inspections and other enforcement activity&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Van operators&#8217; relative lack of regulation when compared to HGV and bus operators &#8212; vans up to 3.5t don&#8217;t require an operator&#8217;s licence, six-week maintenance checks or driver tachographs &#8212; has enabled many van operators to enjoy considerable freedom from enforcement in recent years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50% MOT Failure Rate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/4593\">recent FTA survey<\/a> found that 50% of vans failed their first MOT at three years old.
