{"id":500,"date":"2008-12-10T09:29:31","date_gmt":"2008-12-10T09:29:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=500"},"modified":"2008-12-09T15:32:13","modified_gmt":"2008-12-09T15:32:13","slug":"rac-survey-confirms-cost-matters-environment-doesnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/500","title":{"rendered":"RAC Survey Confirms Cost Matters, Environment Doesn&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new survey by the RAC has confirmed what I have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/79\" target=\"_self\">always<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/176\" target=\"_self\">believed<\/a> &#8211; people will adjust their driving habits in response to increasing costs, but won&#8217;t make changes solely for environmental benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rac.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">RAC<\/a> surveyed the attitudes of 1,040 British motorists as part of its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rac.co.uk\/submissions\/submissions2.cgi?env=rac&amp;config=report-motoring\" target=\"_blank\">2008 RAC Report on Motoring<\/a>. It found that 77% of motorists have changed their driving habits in the last year due to the higher cost of fuel &#8211; but just 6% had changed driving habits out of concern for the environment.<\/p>\n<p>The cost vs. environment theme continued, with 77% of drivers saying that they would buy a greener car &#8211; if the tax incentives were better. In other words, they would buy a greener car if it was cheaper than a more polluting vehicle!<\/p>\n<p>At the risk of sounding cynical, this is exactly what I expected &#8211; and to be honest, exactly what I do.
