{"id":595,"date":"2009-01-14T21:53:34","date_gmt":"2009-01-14T21:53:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=595"},"modified":"2009-01-14T21:53:34","modified_gmt":"2009-01-14T21:53:34","slug":"photocard-driving-licenses-they-expire-sooner-than-you-think","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/595","title":{"rendered":"Photocard Driving Licenses &#8211; They Expire Sooner Than You Think&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the current two-part photocard driving licenses were introduced in 1998, one of the little-publicised changes was that the photocard itself expires after 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Your driving license remains valid until you are 70 &#8211; as before &#8211; but the photocard itself needs renewing. Presumably this is so that the photograph keeps pace with changes to your appearance over the years!<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit that I only realised this myself recently and wasn&#8217;t sure whether I would get a reminder from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvla.gov.uk\" target=\"_blank\">DVLA<\/a> nearer the time.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/wetryharder.co.uk\/?p=538\" target=\"_blank\">this excellent post on the Avis blog<\/a>, I now know the answer &#8211; reminders are being sent out.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, the DVLA have been sending out reminders since May 2008 &#8211; but although you are legally required to renew your license, there is a \u00a317.50 fee to do so with a potential \u00a31,000 fine for non-compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Avis say that they will still hire to you if your photocard has expired but your license is still valid &#8211; but I am not sure whether that would be the case with all hire companies, so it is probably as well to ensure that your photocard is renewed on time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that the photocard section of your driving licence needs to be renewed (with a new photo) every 10 years?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[37],"tags":[578,580,577,579],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/595"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=595"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/595\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=595"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=595"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=595"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
