{"id":6299,"date":"2014-06-09T15:08:57","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T15:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=6299"},"modified":"2014-06-09T15:08:57","modified_gmt":"2014-06-09T15:08:57","slug":"manheim-says-shortage-of-large-vans-is-driving-up-sales-of-smaller-vans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/6299","title":{"rendered":"Manheim says shortage of large vans is driving up sales of smaller vans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5957\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/manheim-logo-300x118.jpg\" alt=\"Manheim logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/manheim-logo-300x118.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/manheim-logo.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Commercial vehicle buyers are purchasing more car-derived vans (CDVs) and small panel vans, due to a chronic lack of larger panel vans (over 3.5t) in the market, according to the latest market analysis from vehicle remarketing firm Manheim.<\/p>\n<p>According to Manheim&#8217;s sales figures, the volume of smaller vans\u00a0entering the used market has risen by around 8%\u00a0over the last year, while the number of larger panel vans (&gt;3.0t) reaching Manheim&#8217;s salerooms has fallen by 14%.<\/p>\n<p>Manheim&#8217;s figures show that the that price of a larger panel van (&gt;3.0t) &#8212; a traditional fleet workhorse &#8212;\u00a0peaked at \u00a35,297 in May, prompted by continued high demand and a modest fall in average age and mileage, which fell from 62 months to 61 months and 86,062 to 84,510 miles\u00a0respectively.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6301\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manheimgraph050614.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6301\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6301\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manheimgraph050614.jpg\" alt=\"Manheim van selling prices May 2013-2014\" width=\"500\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manheimgraph050614.jpg 923w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manheimgraph050614-300x118.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6301\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Average LCV selling prices at Manheim, May 2013-14 (courtesy of Manheim &#8211; click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Across the market as\u00a0a whole, the average value of a used van has risen by 9.2% to \u00a34,741 over the last\u00a0year,\u00a0despite an increase in the total volumes of vans hitting the used market, as Matthew Davock, head of LCV at Manheim, explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;2014 has seen a continuation of the record levels of demand in the used van market. We have seen two months of significant year on year increases in van de-fleets; these vans have been snapped up by eager buyers looking to secure price range quality stock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Interestingly, the mix of vans has changed over the past twelve months, with many more car-derived and small panels vans coming up for sale.
