The Volkswagen Amarok Atacama<\/p><\/div>\n

Seriously, it must take these car companies about 10 minutes to come up with ‘special editions’, such as yesterday’s\u00a0Isuzu D-Max Fury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Come to think of it, it’s an ideal post-pub activity:<\/p>\n

  1. Tick a few boxes for desirable options<\/li>\n
  2. Add some bling — chrome, oversize alloys and dubious decals are obligatory<\/li>\n
  3. Make the inside a little more garish than usual<\/li>\n
  4. Give it a naff name and a restricted choice of colours<\/li>\n
  5. Knock a few hundred quid off the standard list price for the selected options<\/li>\n
  6. Whip together a\u00a0Photoshopped image (just look at it!) — no need for a real photoshoot<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Bingo.<\/p>\n

    Today’s contribution hails from Germany. I give you the Volkswagen Amarok Atacama.<\/p>\n

    Hot on the heels of the\u00a0Canyon<\/a>, Edition<\/a>, Dark Label<\/a> and Ultimate<\/a>\u00a0editions of the Amarok,\u00a0the Atacama is\u00a0“Named after the vast desert region of South America”<\/em>, and “features an equally broad and impressive specification”<\/i>. Seriously,\u00a0did someone get paid to come up with that?<\/p>\n

    Having said that, the Amarok is a classy piece of kit and\u00a0the Atacama is nicely loaded up for your next rumble in the urban jungle.<\/p>\n

    On sale now through Volkswagen\u2019s UK Van Centre network with prices starting from \u00a326,850 +VAT, the Atacama\u00a0is powered by a 2.0-litre BiTDI 180 PS engine with a choice of two transmissions: a six-speed manual with selectable 4MOTION four-wheel drive or an eight-speed automatic with permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive as standard.<\/p>\n

    Available in three colours \u2013 Candy White, Horizon Blue and Deep Black \u2013 the Amarok Atacama comes with bi-xenon headlights, black rear styling bars, black rear bumper with integrated step and 19-inch \u2018Cantera\u2019 alloy wheels. The load bed features a \u2018Durabed\u2019 protective coating, while distinctive black foil finish on the B-pillars and unique \u2018Atacama\u2019 side decals complete the design package.<\/p>\n

    Inside, the Amarok Atacama boasts luxurious Vienna leather upholstery, a newly designed leather multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity and Climatronic 2-Zone air conditioning. There’s also a standard RNS310 sat nav system.<\/p>\n
