{"id":795,"date":"2009-03-24T10:56:21","date_gmt":"2009-03-24T10:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=795"},"modified":"2009-03-24T11:57:27","modified_gmt":"2009-03-24T11:57:27","slug":"van-makers-are-missing-a-trick-royal-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/795","title":{"rendered":"Van Makers Are &#8220;Missing a Trick&#8221; &#8211; Royal Mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vehicle manufacturers are &#8220;missing a trick&#8221; by not focusing on developing low emission urban delivery vans <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplemotoring.co.uk\/blog\/electric-hybrid-cars\/electric-car-news-range-rovers-taxis-renaults\/\" target=\"_blank\">ahead of passenger vehicles<\/a>, according to Mark Cavill, Royal Mail&#8217;s carbon management programme manager.<\/p>\n<p>In an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtransport.com\/Articles\/2009\/03\/20\/133319\/royal-mail-seeking-greener-vehicles.html\" target=\"_blank\">article on RoadTransport.com<\/a>, Cavill commented that &#8220;commercial vehicles represent the ideal platform to showcase future propulsion technology.&#8221; Apparently, Royal Mail&#8217;s vans average just 47 miles per day and most travel on predefined delivery routes &#8211; meaning that range limitations and recharging requirements <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carhireplace.com\/news\/motoring\/electric-car-profitability-remains-elusive-heres-why\/\" target=\"_blank\">are not an issue in the way that they are for privately-owned vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Royal Mail is currently working on ways to reduce its total CO2 output by 50% by 2015.
