It&#8217;s fair to say that it helped to define a shape\u00a0and form factor that has remained the norm ever since.<\/p>\n<h2>How it started&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>The Trafic I was\u00a0available at launch with a payload of up to 1200kg. Safety was improved thanks to better\u00a0visibility and assisted braking with ventilated discs at the front.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8699\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8699\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8699\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-estafette-1-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Renault Estafette\" width=\"403\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-estafette-1-sm.jpg 403w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-estafette-1-sm-269x300.jpg 269w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-estafette-1-sm-45x50.jpg 45w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The original Trafic might seem dated today, but it was a huge leap forwards compared to its predecessor, the Renault Estafette.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In total,\u00a080,442 first-generation Trafics were sold in the UK.<\/p>\n<h2>New century, new model<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s fair to say that by 2000,\u00a0even the facelifted 1995 model of the Trafic was looking and feeling pretty outdated.\u00a0Renault\u00a0rose to the occasion, introducing an all-new design for the Trafic II which\u00a0was once more at the leading\u00a0edge of panel van design.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-mk2-1-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Renault Trafic market II\" width=\"550\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-mk2-1-sm.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-mk2-1-sm-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-mk2-1-sm-50x34.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2000 and brought to the UK in 2001, the Trafic II\u00a0also had the added attraction of being manufactured in the UK, at General Motor&#8217;s Vauxhall plant in Luton.<\/p>\n<p>The Trafic II offered a refrigerated glove box, radio with CD player and central locking as standard, while options at launch included mobile \u2018phone connectivity, air conditioning and a full-glazed bulkhead. Always targeting small-business customers, the Trafic was much more likely to be seen in a colour other than white than vans such as the Transit and Sprinter.<\/p>\n<p>To help encourage such personal touches, the Trafic II was available in a\u00a0a range of twelve colours such as Desert Yellow, Laser Red and Storm Blue.\u00a0 Between 2001 and 2014, 102,486 Trafic II were sold in the UK.<\/p>\n<h2>The third generation<\/h2>\n<p>Renault didn&#8217;t need to do anything too drastic with the Trafic III.\u00a0The Trafic II was still a good van\u00a0and simply needed a comprehensive update and more modern engines.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8697\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-7-med.jpg\" alt=\"Renault Trafic mk III\" width=\"550\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-7-med.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-7-med-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/renault-trafic-7-med-50x35.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2014, the Trafic III\u00a0is available with four turbodiesel engines\u00a0with combined cycle fuel consumption as low as 50.4mpg.<\/p>\n<p>The current model is available in more variants than ever before &#8212; according to Renault, 70 variants are available in the UK.
