{"id":8838,"date":"2016-04-27T16:00:36","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T16:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=8838"},"modified":"2016-04-27T16:00:36","modified_gmt":"2016-04-27T16:00:36","slug":"more-vans-than-ever-on-uk-roads-as-total-rises-over-4-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/8838","title":{"rendered":"More vans than ever on UK roads as total rises over 4 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are now more than\u00a0four million vans on UK roads,\u00a0a record high according to Motorparc data from\u00a0the\u00a0Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8841\" style=\"width: 629px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8841\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/smmt-vanparc-2016.jpg\" alt=\"SMMT vans parc 2016\" width=\"619\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/smmt-vanparc-2016.jpg 619w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/smmt-vanparc-2016-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/smmt-vanparc-2016-50x27.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There are more vans on UK roads than ever before, according to the SMMT (image courtesy of SMMT)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The number of vans\u00a0on our roads has risen by 4.3%\u00a0over the last year, an increase the SMMT believes is linked to\u00a0rising business confidence and\u00a0rapid growth in online shopping. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a few surprising facts about the UK&#8217;s\u00a0vans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you parked all the vans in the UK end-to-end, they would stretch\u00a028 times\u00a0the length of the A1.<\/li>\n<li>The combined payload volume of all the vans in the UK adds up to 26.2 million cubic metres \u2013\u00a0the equivalent of 10,483 Olympic swimming pools.<\/li>\n<li>More than half (57.0%)\u00a0of the vans on the road are white, with silver (11.4%) in second place and blue (9.0%) third.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Demand for new vans in the UK is now at record levels: registrations grew 1.2% in the first quarter of 2016, following a bumper 2015 which saw more than 370,000 units registered. Vans now cover around 45 billion miles across the UK each year. This makes it important that the van parc is kept modern and is well maintained in order to minimise\u00a0its\u00a0carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCommercial vehicles have never been more important to the British economy,\u00a0transporting vital goods and services using the latest low emission technology. The CV Show will demonstrate the huge progress that the whole industry continues to make, with a wealth of new products on display from manufacturers, suppliers, aftermarket companies and service providers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the SMMT, the commercial vehicle sector contributes \u00a311bn annually to the UK economy.\u00a0CVs cover 61 billion miles each year in the UK, with vans\u00a0account\u00a045 billion of these \u2013 an all-time high.
