{"id":9130,"date":"2016-07-29T14:43:51","date_gmt":"2016-07-29T14:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=9130"},"modified":"2016-07-29T14:53:48","modified_gmt":"2016-07-29T14:53:48","slug":"from-bank-robbers-to-comedy-70-years-of-bca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/9130","title":{"rendered":"From bank robbers to comedy: 70 years of BCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 70 years of business, vehicle auctioneer BCA has sold some interesting vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Even BCA founder David Wickins probably didn&#8217;t expect that the business he started by selling 14 cars from a marquee in 1946 would become a global operation that touches\u00a0more than 3.5 million vehicles each year, a quarter of which are sold online.<\/p>\n<p>To mark the firm&#8217;s recent big birthday, BCA has released images of some of the most interesting, unusual and notorious vehicles ever sold by the firm.<\/p>\n<h3>Don&#8217;t panic!<\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;ve covered Corporal Jones&#8217; famous Dad&#8217;s Army\u00a0butcher&#8217;s van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/8330\">before<\/a>. The 1935\u00a0Ford BB van was restored by Ford&#8217;s heritage department before appearing in the recent Dad&#8217;s Army film.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0back in 1991, this celebrated pre-war model was sold by BCA for \u00a310,400, complete with portholes for the platoon to stick their rifles through. The vehicle chosen\u00a0to carry the\u00a0wartime leader&#8217;s coffin was a 1964 Austin Princess Hearse, which\u00a0then went into service with royal funeral directors JH Kenyon Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>The hearse was subsequently resold several times, including by BCA in the 1990s. Sold in 1989 for \u00a380,400.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>It&#8217;s a steal&#8230;!<\/h3>\n<p>BCA&#8217;s <em>Great Train Robbery Special Auction\u00a0<\/em>held at Measham in February 1969 must have been a remarkable event, given the\u00a0heist&#8217;s high profile.<\/p>\n<p>One of the stars of the sale was\u00a0Bruce Reynold&#8217;s 1963 Lotus Cortina,\u00a0registration BMK 723 A.
