{"id":9282,"date":"2016-09-14T14:59:52","date_gmt":"2016-09-14T14:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/?p=9282"},"modified":"2016-09-14T14:59:52","modified_gmt":"2016-09-14T14:59:52","slug":"all-new-volkswagen-crafter-unveiled-at-global-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/9282","title":{"rendered":"All-new Volkswagen Crafter unveiled at global launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No fewer than 69 versions of the new Volkswagen Crafter will be\u00a0available to order\u00a0by mid-2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/archives\/9124\">The all-new model<\/a>\u00a0marks a\u00a0bold change for Volkswagen,\u00a0as previous versions of the Crafter have simply been\u00a0Mercedes-Benz Sprinters\u00a0fitted with VW engines.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9283\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/vw-crafter-10-sm.jpg\" alt=\"All-new Volkswagen Crafter\" width=\"600\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/vw-crafter-10-sm.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/vw-crafter-10-sm-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/vw-crafter-10-sm-50x35.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an overview of the\u00a0choices that will be available once\u00a0the model roll-out is completed next year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 base models, 3 lengths, 3 heights<\/li>\n<li>Front, rear or 4MOTION all-wheel drive<\/li>\n<li>Manual or automatic gearbox<\/li>\n<li>Payload of up to 5.5 tonnes (i.e. 7.5 tonne gross weight?)<\/li>\n<li>Maximum cargo volume of 18.4 cubic metres<\/li>\n<li>Panel van, single and double cab chassis cab models plus conversion options such as tippers<\/li>\n<li>The new Crafter will be available ex-factory with\u00a0additional\u00a0equipment such as\u00a0ex factory as a second compressor for refrigeration or fresh produce applications, four variants of a second battery, a second air conditioner and a second heat exchanger for a fuel-operated auxiliary heating system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Essentially the Crafter offers everything that the\u00a0Mercedes Sprinter, Iveco Daily and Ford Transit offer &#8212;\u00a0the three other heavy vans in the market\u00a0from which VW will hope to take market share.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9126\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9126\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9126\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/vw-crafter-9-sm.jpg\" alt=\"Cab shot of new Volkswagen Crafter\" width=\"600\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/vw-crafter-9-sm.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/vw-crafter-9-sm-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vanrental.co.uk\/vanblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/vw-crafter-9-sm-50x35.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9126\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inside the new Volkswagen Crafter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One criticism of past Crafters is that\u00a0they lacked pulling power when fully loaded, due to\u00a0using car-derived 2.0 TDI engines. Volkswagen says that the Euro 6\u00a0<em>EA 288 Commercial\u00a0<\/em>2.0-litre TDI engine used in the new van is\u00a0has been\u00a0developed to meet the needs of commercial use and\u00a0should offer an improved performance.<\/p>\n<p>Pre-sales of the new Crafter begin in November 2016. UK launch is expected in Spring 2017.\u00a0The first models to hit the roads seem likely to be front-wheel drive models, which will offer gross weights of 3.0-4.0t and engine power ratings\u00a0from 102 PS to 177 PS.<\/p>\n<p>From around mid-2017, the powertrains on offer will be supplemented by the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with a transversely mounted engine and the rear-wheel drive system with a longitudinally mounted engine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volkswagen has launched its all-new Crafter van to global media at an event in Offenbach, Germany.
