Panel vans don’t get Euro NCAP safety ratings, but\u00a0their people carrier equivalents do. So\u00a0it was disappointing to see the Fiat\u00a0Dobl\u00f2 score just three stars out of a possible five in the latest round of Euro NCAP tests.<\/p>\n

The version tested was the 2015 facelift version, but\u00a0this generation of the\u00a0Dobl\u00f2 van was first introduced in 2010, and it shows. The 2015 update\u00a0only included minimal safety upgrades and these are\u00a0not enough to compete with newer models.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the results, Matthew Avery, director of research at Thatcham Research, said:<\/p>\n

This is another FIAT doing the absolute minimum from a safety perspective, with no AEB fitted. There are family vehicles out there which offer far greater levels of protection.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It’s worth noting that while the Fiat Dobl\u00f2 is outdated, the Vauxhall Combo is even more so. Although the Combo is based on the\u00a0Dobl\u00f2, Thatcham Research says that Opel\/Vauxhall has not\u00a0applied the 2015\u00a0Dobl\u00f2 updates to the Combo.\u00a0Thatcham believes the Combo\u00a0“would be expected to end up with even fewer stars”<\/em> if tested.<\/p>\n

I should stress that these\u00a0comments and\u00a0test results apply to the MPV version of the\u00a0Dobl\u00f2, not to the panel van model. But I think it’s probably fair to assume that\u00a0the same test results apply to the van model, as far as pedestrian safety and\u00a0front passenger safety are concerned.<\/p>\n
