Newquay Cornwall Airport (NCQ) is an interesting and slightly different airport. Until December 2008, it was an RAF facility. It is now a commercial airport but benefits from large and well-maintained airports that were originally designed for large military aircraft.
Newquay Cornwall Airport
Until 2008, Newquay Cornwall Airport was a military airfield that was also used for commercial flights. In December 2008, the runway and facilities were handed over to the civilian authorities. The result is that Cornwall is left with an airport boasting substantial runway facilities that are capable of handling large planes – right up to 747s and Airbus A380s.
The airport's current terminal facilities cater for up to 450,000 passengers a year, with further expansion planned in the next few years. Newquay Airport already serves destinations all over the UK and continental Europe, with several major airlines operating services from the airport. Newquay Cornwall Airport is well located for the south west, being just off the A39 and within a few miles of the A30, the main route. The airport is less than 10 miles by road from Newquay itself.
Van hire is available at Newquay Airport although it may be necessary to book with a company in Newquay and arrange airport pickup. A full range of modern rental vans should be available to hirers:
