About Alton

Alton is a historic market town in Hampshire, midway between Winchester to the south west, and Farnham and Aldershot to the north east. The town's history can be traced back more than 1,000 years and the town has many interesting old buildings. These include the Grade I-listed Church of St Lawrence, parts of which date back to 1070.

For today's residents, Alton offers a convenient location with good transport links to London, which is about 55 miles away. The capital can be accessed by a direct rail service and the A31/A3 route. Looking to the south, Alton lies close to the northern edge of the South Downs National Park and is just 30 miles from Portsmouth and the south coast.

Alton is large enough to offer a good range of local services, including car and van hire. A typical range of vans should be available at most times:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
