About Banbury
Banbury is a historic town in North Oxfordshire. It is situated just over 20 miles away from Oxford. Home to approximately 41,000 people, it has a history dating back to the 5th century AD. Unfortunately, the town was ravaged by a major fire in the 17th century, resulting in many of its oldest buildings being destroyed. As a result, much of Banbury was subsequently rebuilt.
Attractions for visitors to Banbury include Banbury Cross, which was erected in 1859 to commemorate the marriage of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter. This was actually a replacement for the original Banbury Cross, which was destroyed in 1602 and to which the nursery rhyme "Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross" refers. In 2005, Princess Anne unveiled a new statue depicting the 'fine lady upon a white horse' of the nursery rhyme. It's situated just across the road from Banbury Cross.
Other attractions include Banbury Museum, which is close to the picturesquely named Spiceball Park, Linden House and the Castle Quay Shopping Centre. Van hire in Banbury is available from a selection of local branches and a full range of hire vans should be on offer:
