About Bangor
The history of Wales' oldest city, Bangor, can be traced back to the sixth century AD, when a religious settlement was established on the site of the cathedral. It's this cathedral that gives Bangor city status today, despite its modest population of less than 20,000.
The city isn't a sleepy backwater, either. Bustling Bangor University has more than 10,000 students, providing a significant economic uplift in the local area. Transport links are good for the west side of Wales. Bangor has direct rail link to Crewe and Chester and lies on the A55, putting it around two hours' drive from Liverpool and Manchester.
