About Blyth

Blyth is located in the Blyth Valley and close to the River Blyth. It's home to around 36,000 people and historically a major coal mining and shipbuilding area. Since suffering the loss of these industries in the 1970s and 80s, Blyth has undergone considerable regeneration and is today once more a healthy, thriving town.

The Port of Blyth, too, has been regenerated, shedding its shipbuilding past to become a major handler of forest products such as pulp and paper, bulk cargos and even containerised shipments.

In 2000, the town became home to the UK's first offshore wind farm, which consists of two wind turbine situated 1km off the coast. The town already had an existing, slightly larger wind farm in the form of Blyth Harbour Wind Farm, constructed on Blyth's East Pier in 1992.

Blyth is also the home of non-league football club Blyth Spartans AFC, famed for their various giant-slaying F.A. Cup successes over the years. The club famously reached the 5th round of the 19778 FA Cup, drawing with Wrexham before eventually conceding defeat in a replay. Blyth Spartans has a long history, having been formed in 1899 and today continues to enjoy the support of its loyal fan base.

Given Blyth's substantial population and large transport industry, it's no surprise that the town is well-supplied with van rental companies. Van hire in Blyth is catered for by local companies providing a full range of rental vans:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
