About Chesterfield

One of Chesterfield's most easily recognisable landmarks is the Church of Saint Mary, with its distinctive crooked spire. Several fanciful stories exist to explain the crooked spire, but the true story is one of poor workmanship and the use of unseasoned timber, which subsequently twisted as it dried out under the weight of 32 tons of lead tiles!

Other attractions in the town include Chesterfield Museum and Queen's Park. There are also a number of popular attractions within a short drive of the town - ranging from the majestic house and gardens at Chatsworth through to Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre - the only remaining operational roundhouse in the UK, with a big selection of trains.

Chesterfield is within an easy drive of the Derbyshire Peak District, making it a popular location for residents and businesses alike. More than 100,000 people live in Chesterfield, with many more in surrounding areas like Bolsover, Dronfield, Clay Cross, Stavely, Brimington and Walton.

Historically heavily involved in coal mining, today Chesterfield provides more varied employment opportunities - including GKN, Robinsons and numerous large shops. The town is one of the main retail centres in the area, with Vicar Lane particularly popular (although Sheffield offers much more) and is also home to a large, thrice-weekly market as well as a weekly flea market.

Chesterfield's broad mixture of industrial, business and residential areas means that van hire in Chesterfield is in steady demand - so there are plenty of van rental companies to choose from, each offering a good range of hire vans:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
