About Cwmbran

Cwmbran was founded as a new town in 1949 to provide employment and housing in the South Wales Coalfield. The area was historically home to a number of coal and iron ore mines, but the vast majority of these industrial areas have now been redeveloped.

Built around the villages of Old Cwmbran, Upper Cwmbran, Croesyceiliog, Llantarnam, Llanyrafon and Pontnewydd, Cwmbran has continued to grown and is now home to around 50,000 people.

Cwmbran is just 10 minutes by rail or around half an hour by car from the centre of Newport, making it a popular choice with commuters and providing good access to the M4 motorway, which runs east and west through Newport.

The town is home to a number of factories and has shopping centres, sports clubs and a wide range of other amenities. Van hire is readily available locally -- a typical range of vans should be on offer at most times:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
