Dartford, in Kent, is perhaps best known for its proximity one of the major crossings of the River Thames. A river crossing has been established in the area since Roman times and today's Dartford Crossing is made up of two parts. The first is the Dartford Tunnel, a twin-bore tunnel usually used for northbound traffic; the second is the Queen Elizabeth II toll bridge, usually used for southbound traffic on the London Orbital A282. Today Dartford is also the nearest town to the large Bluewater shopping centre, one of the largest retail centres in the area.
