About Dorchester
The county town of Dorset since 1305, Dorchester is an attractive market town just inland from the south coast, and near to Poole and Weymouth. Home to around 17,000 people, Dorchester is popular with visitors to the area and contains many historical buildings and Roman remains.
Visitors often choose to take the Durnovaria Town Walk. This route follows the footprint of the old Roman walls and takes in some of the most attractive and historical parts of Dorchester, including The Borough Gardens and Salisbury Fields.
