About Falkirk

Falkirk is a lowlands town with a population of more than 30,000 and a history as an important industrial town. In recent years, the town's network of canals has given rise to a new and impressive tourist attraction, the Falkirk Wheel.

The wheel connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, using a very modern and energy efficient rotating boat lift. The canals were once joined by locks, but this connection fell into disrepair in the 1930s and was, in any case, very time-consuming to use.

Other attractions in the Falkirk area include the remains of the Antonine Wall, a Roman Wall built of turf which once marked the northern frontier of the Roman Empire.

Falkirk's central location has made it a popular location as a base for a range of companies. The nearby Grangemouth refinery also provides significant local employment and supports a number of businesses.

Van rental is readily available in and around Falkirk. A typical selection of hire vehicles is normally available:

  • Medium vans - e.g. Ford Transit Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
