About Harwich
Harwich is a medium-sized town in Essex on the east coast of England. Historically an important naval dockyard, today Harwich is best known as the departure point for the Hook of Holland ferry service. The larger port of Felixstowe, which is just across the water from Harwich, attracts the bulk of shipping activity thanks to its large container port.
The town itself can trace its history back to the early 13th century. Harwich still has a number of medieval buildings but has expanded steadily over the years to become home to more than 17,000 people.
