About Knaresborough
Knaresborough is an historic market town on the River Nidd, 4 miles east of Harrogate. Knaresborough's history can be traced back to at least the 12 century, when the town's Norman castle is thought to have been built.
Knaresborough's market charter is similarly ancient, dating back to 1310. The town's weekly market remains active today and takes place in Knaresborough's historic market square. Despite its antiquity, Knaresborough's road and rail connections are quite good. The town benefits from a direct rail link to Leeds and York and is only four miles from the A1.
There's little in the way of local industry or commerce, as most residents commute elsewhere. However, Knaresborough does boast a good selection of historic pubs and attracts a fair number of visitors each year.
