About Leigh On Sea
The Essex coastal town of Leigh-on-Sea is home to more than 20,000 people and has an impressively long history. Leigh-on-Sea was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and the town's Church of St Clement dates back to around 1400.
The town had an early history as a port and continues to have an active fishing industry today, with shell fish the main catch. Many of the town's residents work in or around London and benefit from the town's direct rail link to the capital.
