Malvern is best known as a spa town, a facility that was first developed in the 19th century. Well-known personages including Franklin D. Roosevelt and the daughter of Charles Darwin stayed in the town to convalesce during its late 19th century heyday. While the popularity of spa treatment has waned, Malvern has found another use for its spring water - drinking. Mineral water from Malvern's springs can be found in many UK supermarkets.
Attractions in and around Malvern include the Malvern Hills, much of which have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They are popular with walkers and nature lovers and provide some of the finest scenery in the West Midlands. In the town, attractions include the Malvern Museum, situated in the Abbey Gateway building, and the Malvern Priory.
