Manningtree is a small town in Essex. Home to fewer than 1,000 people, it claims to be the smallest town in Britain and is situated about 12 miles south west of Ipswich and a little closer to Harwich. It lies at the head of the River Stour and in pre-railway days was a thriving port.
Today, it is a smaller, quieter place with a number of attractive medieval buildings and the oldest Methodist church in Essex, on South Street.
Manningtree's railway station provides direction connections to London, Norwich and Harwich and the town is extremely close to the nearby villages of Mistley and Lawford. Despite its small population, Manningtree has a range of small businesses including shops B&Bs, restaurants and light industry.
